About the event
Chinese calligraphy is a revered art form that combines brushwork, artistic expression, and cultural heritage. One of the unique aspects of Chinese calligraphy is its deep connection to the written language itself. Nüshu, often translated as "women's writing," is an ancient script that developed in the southern Hunan province of China and was predominantly used by women for communication and self-expression in a society that traditionally limited their education. Promoting Nüshu through a Chinese calligraphy workshop is not only an opportunity to celebrate this cultural heritage but also an avenue to empower and educate participants, fostering a greater appreciation for Chinese culture and gender equality. During the workshop, Professor Sun, the calligraphy teacher at CMU will teach participants how to write nüshu . After practicing on writing nüshu calligraphy, participants will be able to design and deliver their own artwork: nüshu on Chinese fans. Catering provided.
